Three Middle Grade Books To Read

THREE MIDDLE GRADE BOOKS TO READ

Time to stock up on three middle grade books to read. I may be breaking the rules by mentioning three books in one post, but why not have some fun and concentrate a post on reading!!

SHARK WARS

Shark Wars
Shark Wars

Since the dawn of time, prehistoric shark clans called Shivers have ruled over the earth’s oceans, fierce protectors of all who swim. For eons, the Big Blue has prospered under Shiver Law, and the delicate balance of sea life kept sacred. Until now.

Rising sea temperatures and overfishing have caused food to become scarce, and the battle for new hunting grounds has brought with it corruption and warfare.

Now, with the ocean on the brink of chaos, a young reef shark named Gray – exiled from the safety of his peaceful reef home – must venture deep into Open Water to unlock the secrets of his destiny and bring peace back to the ocean. But first, he’ll have to discover the truth about who – and what – he really is.

Shark Wars by E. J. Altbacker is the first in a middle grade fantasy adventure series. I was immediately curious because imo, the premise sounded hard to pull off. I was quickly immersed. (pun intended) The protagonist is an impulsive rebel who makes his share of mistakes. Gray and his friends stick together and persevere. With strong friendship themes, villains and a war, the action doesn’t stop for a second. Grade school boys will adore this series. Or any kid who thinks sharks are cool. It’s suitable to read to younger kids, too. Both fins up for Shark Wars.

The Library of Ever is a stand alone fantasy. As the title suggests, this setting is above ground. Like Gray in Shark Wars, Lenora has inner strength. She is not a rebel, and strives to please her librarian boss and help others. The pace is quick and the action doesn’t stop. I was firmly on team Lenora, rooting for her success.

My ten-year old self would have read it cover to cover.

THE LIBRARY OF EVER

The Library of Ever

Publisher’s description: With her parents off traveling the globe, Lenora is bored, bored, bored—until she discovers a secret doorway into the ultimate library. Mazelike and reality-bending, the library contains all the universe’s wisdom. Every book ever written, and every fact ever known, can be found within its walls. And Lenora becomes its newly appointed Fourth Assistant Apprentice Librarian.

She rockets to the stars, travels to a future filled with robots, and faces down a dark nothingness that wants to destroy all knowledge. To save the library, Lenora will have to test her limits and uncover secrets hidden among its shelves.

The Library of Ever is a great read aloud! You can purchase the book here!

MAGIC PIE

Magic Pie

Last but not least, I was gifted a copy of Magic Pie, by Robyn Embrey for review.

The story follows Olly, who wants to make a magic pie. He fails in his first attempt. His mom gives him an assist with her secret stash of pixie dust. Ollie is transported to a magical land. He proceeds on an adventure where he makes friends and helps other magical creatures with their problems.

The characters team together to complete their quests. There is no danger in Ollie’s fantasy land so it’s safe for the younger set. Written in verse, this would make a great bedtime story for pre-schoolers.

“Sprinkle this from your hand, to tell the genie it’s safe to land.”

Who wouldn’t want a genie to land on their hand and grant them wishes? I can think of bunches of wishes I’d like granted!

Check amazon for purchase.

What wishes would you like granted?
